Standing with the member on the far left of the second row. This equipment was adopted by the Canadian militia in 1899 and is said to be the first equipment manufactured by Canada. This was standard infantry equipment, with few exceptions in the period of 1908-1913 and was used until its replacement by Pattern 1915 equipment in 1915 (in Canada) and the Web Pattern 1908 equipment (additionally-sea). It was also worn by the 1st Canadian Contingent in South Africa in 1900, the Royal Canadian Regiment (R.C.R) and by many members of the 1st Canadian Contingent in 1914.
