To complete the course on the remotely operated turret (RWS) mounted on the TAPV, the candidates had the chance to participate in a live firing range with the C16 grenade launchers firing 40mm caliber grenades and coaxial C6 machine guns firing cartridges 7.62mm caliber. Several C6-armed G-Wagons were also used on the same firing range. The firing range was conducted in concert with the 12th Armored Regiment of Canada from Trois-Rivières. Several members of Sher H who did not necessarily participate in the RWS course were still present.
The candidates were first evaluated on a static shooting exercise, where they were able to really practice with the system. The shooting was done on fixed targets at distances varying between 300m and 1.2km. The exercise allowed the members to practice the procedures of setting in battery but also zeroing and preparation of the weapon system.
When the evening came, to everyone's delight, a night shooting exercice was authorized. Candidates and other members were therefore able to practice assisted shooting with the thermal camera or simply shooting with tracer bullets.
The result is, without a doubt, very impressive ! :
The last step before obtaining the qualification consisted of a shooting exercise on the move, which each of the candidates greatly appreciated and succeeded in doing.
Along with the mounted range, shotgun, C9 machine gun and C6 machine gun ranges were also held.
In summary, more than 60,000 7.62mm bullets, 7,000 40mm grenades for the C16 machine gun, 13,000 5.56mm bullets for the C9, 200 12 gauge cartridges were fired during this weekend. It was a perfect weekend for the candidates to perfect their knowledge, but also to take advantage of the very mild weather.
