Various names of the Sherbrooke Regiment leading to its amalgamation with the 7/11th Hussars

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

The following dates are all documented in the Regulations and/or General Orders of the Canadian Militia. They can also be found by browsing through a few volumes. Let's take this opportunity to correct a common error that can be found even in the Brooker's book, which made a mistake in calling the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment, the Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment. Well, know that he has no s to Fusilier although people in Ottawa made that mistake when the regiment was initially nominated. This was quickly corrected and the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment NEVER had "s" on any of its badges, titles or buttons. There was, however, a shoulder flash that had a spelling error; a missing “E” in Sherbrook (see photo).

It also happens too often that the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment is translated into French, which leads to confusion. The Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment is a different regiment from Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke, although several of its members served there.
